Ingredients
- 2 cups lard for deep-frying
- 3/4 cup all-purpose flour
- 1 1/2 teaspoons white sugar
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1/3 cup milk
- 1 eggs, beaten
- 1 1/2 teaspoons melted lard
- 1 1/2 cups apples peeled, cored and chopped
- 1/2 cup cinnamon sugar
Instructions
- Heat the lard in a deep-fryer or electric skillet to 375º F (190º C).
- In a large bowl, stir together the flour, sugar, baking powder and salt.
- Pour in the milk, eggs and melted lard and stir until well blended.
- Mix in apples until they are evenly distributed.
- Drop spoonfuls of the batter into the hot lard & fry about 2-3 minutes per side or until golden on both sides,
- Fry in very small batches so they are not crowded.
- Remove from the fryer using a slotted spoon and drain on paper towels.
- Toss with cinnamon sugar or dust with powdered sugar while still warm.
