Ingredients
- 1 lb ground beef
- 1 Tbsp flour
- 1 Tbsp butter
- 2 Tbsp finely chopped onion
- ¼ cup finely chopped celery
- ¼ cup finely chopped carrots
- 1 cup beef stock
- Salt and pepper
- Crust:
- 2 cups self-rising flour
- Pinch salt
- 1 cup lard
- 1/3 cup water
Instructions
- Crust:
- Sift flour and salt, add lard and mash with fingers until it looks like bread
- crumbs. Mix in water gradually, stirring until dough makes a stiff ball. Turn onto floured surface and knead lightly. Roll out.
- Filling:
- Sprinkle beef with flour and sauté in butter with onion, celery and carrot until meat is brown and vegetables are bright in color.
- Add stock, salt and pepper and simmer covered, until meat is tender.
- Place in pie pan and top with crust dough.
- Bake at 425º F for 10 to 15 minutes or until the crust is golden brown. Serve hot.
